Hello all, please help a newbie with electrical issue !
Hi to all members, does anyone know where the red/white factory positive wire that feeds into the back of the indicator stalk gets its power from (where it feeds back too) please? I had an indicator stalk issue that caused a spark (which I’ve now fixed) but since then I have a dead (immobilised) 996 (no cluster lights although windows and stereo and computer still works) An Auto electrician friend identified there was no power getting to the factory positive behind the indicator side and we are thinking it may go back to the immobiliser unit under the passenger seat (although there’s no red/white wire to be found but Porsche could’ve changed the colour en route to deter car thieves perhaps) ..I’m hoping someone knows how to fix without replacing the immobiliser unit and recoding keys etc ..any ideas guys/girls please ? Best wishes Nick

It goes back to the ignition lock mechanism. It also ties into the 80amp fuse labled as "engine electronics" this sits behind the hvac box on the fire wall right off the battery. I would say if the dme lights up that fuse is fine.
My guess would be replace the ignition. Its known to cause issues even without sparks.
If the health of the immobilizer is in question get in touch with ecudoctors in fl. Its $100 for a full diagnostic from them.

Yea its interior to the car under the carpet behing the hvac box. Like i said i doubt its the issue because it feeds a ton of stuff. U can always get the Bentley manual too . It has all the scematics
Dont forget to go through all the fuses on the drivers side foot well panel.

You should be looking for this.
this is a picture I took when I removed the dashboard and AC evaporator, but you should be able to get to it with no issue.
if I remember correctly, you will need to disconnect the battery positive terminal that goes to the firewall, and remove the two nuts.
that will allow you to pull the fuse box into the car, and inspect it.
if you have a RHD, that might be located on the driver side.
this is the terminal I’m referring to (LHD car)

Hello All, just an update on this issue I had. Zuffenhaus in the West Midlands (UK) determined that the reason I had cluster lights or ignition at all was a blown big fuse and burnt out wire situated behind the glove box (RHD car). So relatively cheap fix although all evidence pointed to an immobiliser short circuit where I may have had to replace the unit under the seat and recode keys etc thankfully avoided such things..and Porsche engineering of a fail safe was the solution. Many thanks to those who contributed and offered advice and now I can join the other 6 911’s in the convoy off to Le Mans in France and then the Porsche museum in Stuttgart (Germany) for a weeks road trip through glorious European roads ..best wishes and good health all
