Default Looking for the prior owner of the new to me 2000 Speed Yellow Aerokit Coupe

Two weeks ago a friend of mine told me about a Speed Yellow 996 with Aerokit and based on his description I didn't get too excited but figured it was worth a look... Damn glad I did as I ended up bringing this car home. The intriguing thing to me is that clearly it was ordered by someone who was passionate about Porsche and then owned by someone who REALLY liked it and spent quite a few $$ on it. The most recent owner bought it in 2006 and he got zero history. More than anything would love to know more about it and frankly shake someone's hand, very well spec'd, it just "seems" like it was a Rennlister's car based on the mods. Seems hard to believe that is just "appeared: Does anyone know this car?? If not, no big deal but whoever the owner was they did an amazing job, car looks and drives brilliant! Here is what I know:

2000 996 Carrera Coupe
Sold new at Stoddard in Ohio
Original owner appears to have lived in Ohio 2000-2003
2nd owner appeared to be in the Chicago area, servicing the car at Porsche Exchange 2003-2005.
3rd owner was short term (who the last owner bought from) 7 months in Denver.
  • Factory Aerokit
  • Originally came with painted hardback, swapped to painted OEM 996.1 GT3 Perlon Recaro's
  • Porsche Techquipment Roll cage
  • Ordered with painted console
  • GT3 center console delete
  • PSS9 and some unknown sway/drop link/suspension updates
  • Some sort of unknown exhaust upgrades
  • Lightweight clutch and flywheel/short shift of some kind
  • BSA Wheels
  • Lots of other small cool mods and updates!
Worth noting: I will have to "out" them as they also added the fake GT3 badge, I will be removing that....

That is a very nice build in fantastic shape! But them I am partial to Speed Yellow. Will the PSS9 coil overs allow for the car to be lowered another 16MM in the front and 25MM in the back?

yes. It’s actually towards the top of the adjustment as the last owner liked it that way. I was going to adjust it right away but I must be getting old as I like the carefree nature of the ride height… will probably lower it back down 🤣

Amazing car, excellent condition. Let us know if you end up finding the original owner. Definitely one to hold onto.

Check with Fish2556 on IG, he probably knows the Chicago owner if it wasn't even him.

I bought the Touring from Porsche Exchange and he knew it's owner. If it's from Chicago, especially the North Side, he will know about it.

I'm not loving the rear wheel fitment, a little too pokey for my taste, but the car has some amazing potential for sure.

Other option is to give Midwest Eurosport a call in Bensonville. Between Fischer Motorsports, MW Eurosport and Porsche Exchange, you will most likely find the owner. There is one more option to call and that's Isringhausen Porsche in Springfield. If the owner was from Southern IL, there is a good chance they may have used them.

Plenty of other good Porsche Shops here in IL that may make sense to call if those shops don't pan out. Not to mention Chicago PCA leadership and members. PM me if you need more help.

EDIT: if the Chicago owner put in the GT3 seats, they were most likely bought them thru Northstar Motorsports in Barrington, IL. You would want to talk to John (owner) who is also the chief driving instructor for the region.

Thank you, good leads! 100% agree on the rear wheel fitment, they are ET45 so 20mm more aggressive than factory, an ET55 would have been about perfect. I will see what I think when I re-adjust the ride heigh back down. Long term I will likely make another wheel choice, we shall see. I am trying to resist the urge to do to much to it, already have way to many cars that I am busy messing with!

Good leads as well, I know the Isringhausen's, so I will ask them. The car originally had Speed Yellow painted hardbacks, clearly those went somewhere so I thought it was likely a RL'er ended up with them. Of course this is early 2000's era so they might be long gone or have moved onto another section of the forum for sure!

Yeah, I don't ever remember seeing the car at DEs about that time (tough to miss), but unless the owner was mechanically inclined, it was serviced somewhere. Also try Kerry at Napleton Porsche. He was the service manager during that Era, he is now in sales at Napleton. Kerry has a good memory and is a good guy.

My car originally came from the Porsche Exchange… They refused to give the PO any service records (even though they claimed the second owner bought it from them and had all service work done there)… Given the history I’ve pieced together (engine replaced with another that had questionable work done to it - one sleeved cylinder that eventually slipped and scored) it’s no wonder why 😏
