I have a 1999 996 C2 cab as a daily driver and often take 2 hour plus day trips. Needing new mounts, thinking OEM, but tempted to put the $$ on an RSS upgrade if it's not too much NVH feedback in the seats or rattles. Convertibles already have a stiff structure, so I'm not sure what the result would be.
Boss, fwiw, I just replaced my 20 year old oem engine mounts with Rein mounts. Didn't waste any time or money with anything else. It was a good call.
Thanks! I just received the RSS today and will wrench them this weekend. Kind of excited to be honest. The tech at RSS said a cabriolet might be less NVH than a coupe so I was game to try it. I have to admit they are a work of art compares to may OEM so the parts geek in me is excited.
Sorry Boss. You must have misunderstood. Watch the video from a few posts above and it will outline why you do NOT want to use solid or semi solid mount on your 996. Just like you, I was all set to get a set of the RSS mounts. Then it became clear to not do it. Instead, use either new factory mounts or REIN mounts which are in essence the same as oem since REIN makes them for porsche but are cheaper.
Watch the video and do a search on rennlist for the topic before you put them on.
Sorry to pile on, but… Where did you get the idea that “cabrio/convertibles have stiff structure”…? This is just wrong! No roof = more chassis flex. Full stop…

My service tech said that which was roundly disputed when I spoke to RSS directly. They said the N H would be less in a Cab.

Thanks for the concern, and to your point, I’ve watched many videos and read quite a few 180 degree conflicting opinions, even those about dyno results. In the end, I used points to buy the RSS and figured that the worst that could happen was reselling them and going tamer or OEM. A long chat with RSS locally was the last step. The 3 to 4K range is the fun zone to me so I really cant know till I try it. I have a lift so it’s not that bad to do. The one RSS road test video from the UK swayed me and he reached out. Such a subjective move and I hope the dyno video will not prove true in my case. (I have to admit that I am seduced by their beauty!!) I will do these as my one last daddy/daughter wrench job before her wedding and report back. Thanks for caring!
I have an '02 cab. I changed to RSS mounts shortly after buying the car due to worn out mounts and low hanging engine. They did add some NVH but only at certain RPM's. There was something in the door that would rattle. I was too lazy to figure out what it was. Also had a small vibration on the center console. Needed to touch it to know it was there. With the new engine, being assembled at the time the video was done, the RSS mounts were replaced with the Rein's. No comments on noticing any difference in power as the engine is a completely different beast now.

Thanks for taking the time to fill me in. I may end up there as well!. Speaking of the engine, mine was rebuilt about 40k ago, bored to 3.6, has the usual updates, and sleeved by L&N. It’s like a sewing machine. Love it. Did not change flywheel. More than power, I’m hoping for more direct shift feel and handling as I don’t track it or even take it above 5k very often. It’s very much a pch street convertible w some Fisters for the WW2 P38 sound effects.

Wait ...so you valued the word of someone representing the product over a long time engine builder who showed the power loss with back to back-same car-same day dyno comparisons!

Ok...fine...enjoy
My car is not that car. As many posters pointed out who question that video, there are also variables that influence those results. You may be right, the video may be right. There are also true believers out there otherwise they would be recalled. It’s like how much HP intake changes really get you or exhaust mods. It’s also road feel. I spoke to RSS not so much to get a “pitch” but since they have sold so many what to expect in a cab. My tech recommended OEM, the mechanic on the floor said RSS. To me, there are things in life that are best tried and this is reversible if I don’t love it. I get your point and respect that.
