Default Got a '99 996--Need Advice

Hi everyone, I took over a lease on a '99 996 6-Sp. Just drove it back from Fla to Boston--great car! I have a 930 & a 928, so I am new to these beasts.

Few questions: I added about a Qt of coolant (1/2 water, 1/2 antifreeze, as the manual says) & the warning light on the temp guage did stop flashing. Is it typical to be down? Any pointers?

The clutch feels a little soft (36K miles)--does not slip, but on one quick start to get a reading on my G-Timer, it did slip some. Traction control was on.

Any other service issues or recalls that I should watch for?

Any other pointers or advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks, Tom

You may have a crack in the coolant tank, they tend to go bad. Very hard to see as well.

Default The plastic tank cracking

Yep the whole thing not the cap...

Mine did it... just had it replaced... it is not that big of a deal just a little frustrating is all...with that kind of leak I would expect you would smell it burn a bit after driving as it leakes right down on the driver side fo the engine/exhaust.

Actually, it could be just the cap; ask them to change the cap first... this is what happened on mine... sometimes it's not necessary to replace the whole coolant bottle - quite a difference in $$$ between cap and whole bottle change as well!
