I really don’t mind the shape but I just can’t get over the amber turn signal. Has anyone been able to find any headlights or covers without the amber part?

I did a quick search using "Euro Headlight 996.1" and a bunch came up without the amber lens but I have no idea what the real nomenclature is. The .1 one guys will definitely chime in with the specifics.

Headlights without the amber should be pretty easy to find on eBay.
I'm certain I saw some while looking for a replacement 996.2 headlight.

The amber headlights/taillights on the 996 are pretty rare. Only early build cars got them (until 8/98 or 9/98), and even then if the car was optioned with litronics the headlights were clear. You should have no problem finding clear headlights, as most 996.1s came with clear lights. In fact it is finding amber headlights that are truly 996 and not 986 (they are slightly different) that is difficult.

If you are talking about the little piece of amber behind the lens on the clear 996.1 headlights then there are plenty of aftermarket options that have zero color.

I have a 2000 that has Litronic headlights so the outer cover was not amber but there was an interior lense that was amber. I was able to removes this by breaking it up and taking it out and using an amber light bulb. If you don't have the amber exterior lense I am sure I can find the instructions for this.

If anyone is looking for (used) amber headlights or taillights as described here, I have both on the shelf!
