In my pic above, I used the spacers that came with the new shocks and kept the old. I did manage to find a local guy that had a pair and gave him $20 for 'em, just in case I wanted to go a bit higher. I'll see if I can dig them out.

When I bought my bilsteins, they came with these large washers that went down over the strut and sat on a lip. The spring just sat on that? Sounds like I just need to find more of those washers and put a couple on each side.
Thanks all for the help.

Could you let me know if you find them? I'm looking for them as well and am having a difficult time sourcing them. Thanks

You can make them with a 2" hole saw. I used .125" HDPE plastic. Made three for both sides. You could also use steel or aluminum.

Nice.
So it literally just sits between the damper and the spring? Will it slide around or does the springs pressure hold it in place?

Your serious lack if understanding has me genuinely concerned for your ability you perform this mod. U make a washer from hdpe, cutting board material, and put it under the spring. It cant go anywhrre. The shock tube goes through the middle. Look at the pics.

Fear not, I have no intentions of installing it myself, I’m just trying to understanding how the washer doesn’t rub against the metal shock tube when in use. It just doesn’t look like the there’s anything keeping it in place. My local shops aren’t familiar with this and I want to make sure I’m giving them them right product to install. Thanks for your patience 🍻

One reason to cut them from hdpe. U could always tack weld them on the flang if u use metal.

when u put the spacer in, the spring with the weight of the car on the suspension it will not move.

honestly if the mechanic doesnt understand the basic construction of a strut and what u want to do without an explaination then go to the next mechanic. But hopefully now u r a little more informed.

On a '99 C2, I.D. is 50mm and O.D. is 76mm.

That's the answer I was looking for; the weight of the car keeps it in place.
Yea there's definitely not an abundance of specialty mechanics in my area, they all say this is 'custom' work.
I appreciate the help.

My bad bud, I took the tires off the rear today and saw where the base of the spring hits, it’s more self explanatory than I thought. I saw a diagram on a different site where the spring sat where the damper rod enters, so it didn’t make sense to me. Here’s what mine looks like.

Before I started throwing extra washers on, I'd replace that upper spring insulator and see what happens. It looks like there's something funky going on with yours.

Agreed. Both 4mm and 5mm say they fit my car, does it matter which one? Thanks
