Dont suffer! - CDR Volume ****
Ok I almost posted this in "what did you do to your 996 today", but its so painfully embarrassing that I thought it deserved its own thread. My 996.2 has the factory BOSE (yes, ugh) CDR-23 and for 2 years of ownership, the volume **** as done that annoying thing where it jumps and or just does nothing. In a youtoob rabbit-hole last night, I saw someone restoring the stickiness issue these ***** have (mine has been garage kept most of its life and doesn't have this issue thankfully). While he had the ***** off to clean/plastidip them, he sprayed inside his head unit with CRC contact cleaner to fix the volume issue.
So...today I spent all of 14 seconds on my 996. Fixed the issue immediately. You could pretty much say I'm a master tech at this point.
If this is bothering you, go do it! Its not worth the headache when its SO easy.

Awesome! and funny. Time to date ourselves. The first time I used this method to clean a rheostat on an amplifier was at school in 1983! And I'm sure the chemical in that can was not safe for the environment...

Great timing as this has been bugging me for a while too! I don't mind the stock Bose system at all. Will have to give this a try. Additionally, at temps below 50F my radio turns on but produces no sound. Another gremlin I need to chase down.

Thanks! Dont mind at all! I love this shift ****. Had a rennline aluminum on before and replaced with this. Makes the interior. Its a gentleman named Manual who makes them to order by hand. Going to be about twice as much as a rennline wooden, but well, well worth it and you get the option to customize. @zbomb and several others who I can't remember all have ***** from him. Check out this thread. You can see other varieties and his email address there. Ping him with what you want. He is super helpful/fast.

When this has happened to me, I just key cycle the car. Has fixed it all of the maybe 3 times I've experienced it. My head unit will also occasionally get stuck on the "PORSCHE" boot up screen. Same thing; key cycle and its fixed.

Interesting! Will have to give this a try next time it happens. Not as often but I've gotten the PORSCHE logo stuck as well. Only a matter of time till I replace the unit....

Just pull gently and they come straight off. Its only plastic inside though, so no need to spray the **** itself. Just spray where you pulled it out (doesn't take much!). I wiped the excess immediately to keep the head unit clear. Give it 10 or 20 seconds then soak up any moisture you see. Should be good to go.
