The standard aero bumpers didn’t have any mesh in them, I’d venture to bet someone added it on the cup one too. I run mine open like it came from the factory, to allow as much uninterrupted air flow in as possible. I just make sure the condensers are always clear of debris. Usually drop the bumper every couple years and spray them with the pressure washer, vacuum them out throughout the season too

That is a OEM cup lip, do you have a .1 or .2? I have a 996.1 DP Motorsports carbon lip that was accidentally sent to me if you’re interested.

This is the correct response. Shouldn't put any kind of grate in front as it certainly will disrupt the air flow, just keep condensers clean and leave it be.

I enjoy throwing these diffusers in the trash.
Lots of cars come here with them, none leave with them installed. We dispose of them, or send them home with the car for the owner to sell on eBay, because they'll never be fitted again.

Serious question… how much airflow is a mesh with fairly large openings really disrupting?

Any diffusion is too much.
I've done the work back to back, to back. You could not make me diffuse the inlet flow.
Don't add something to be lazy, and spend less time cleaning the area behind the bumper thinking you can add a grille and keep it clean. They still don't work, and the area still gets debris build up.
Clean the area behind the bumper once per year, and don't diffuse the air.

Depends what you consider large. Most offered like what OP was looking at is going to be pretty disruptive, anything larger probably won't really catch anything that wouldn't find it's way in anyways.

Regardless of the size of gaps, disruption is there, and then, if the "purpose" is to catch debris, anything caught is going to further prevent air flow.

This makes me wonder why the newer GT3 cars use a fairly fine mesh covers from factory. Any explanation for this? I'd imagine a highly strung NA motor made for racing will produce plenty heat so why are they there from factory?
