interesting the only cab listed has a different second digit of the last 6 VIN numbers. The coupes all have 62xxxx and the cab has 65xxxx. And the cab is 7/98 build with 65xxxx and the 7/98 coupe build is 62xxxx. I'm guessing the cabs have their own unique VIN series then?

That is correct 62 denotes coupe 65 denotes cab and the 4 digits after that denote build number. Lower the 4 digit number the earlier the build. I've read that 996s started with 620061 but would need to hear that confirmed.
Folks we have some news:This user @MBH911 has posted an authentic early-build ambers car from 09/98, apparently just before the factory shutdown for vacation. From the VIN we see this ostensible last early-build C2 coupe is number 3,749
Now we know. Less than 4K early-build coupes worldwide. Amazing. I'll conservatively venture less than 1K of those imported by PCNA

so if there were 175,164 total 996s built, and the MY99 coupes did in fact start at VIN #61, then that means there are 3,688 early build coupes for the world. Which is just over 2% of all the 996s ever made.

Y2KARRERA unsure Coupe Tip US WP0AA2990XS623549 black/savannah beige... Door sticker is missing so unsure of build date, but 3549 is 200 before MBH911 3749.. Remove if not appropriate..
