Some 09/98 cars (probably built first four days of that month) may have had amber lenses, which means they would have been assembled (with 993’s) in a different factory than the later 996’s
If your car is amber-lenses that could explain the discrepancy in logo placements (??)
We would please like to know definitively if your car had amber lenses, or at least the last four digits of your VIN? Thanks!!

My 9/98 build XAA is lower than yours but higher what is shown by @wab_jr . I suspect that there was likely much variation during the first model year run (or potentially the whole run since there aren't a ton of .1 XAA cars). Similar production variations exist in other P-car models going all the way back to the beginning.
