Moving european '00 996 Cab to the US
I am moving back to the US and would love to take my '00 996 Carrera Cabriolet back to NJ. (Hardtop, Nav, Tip, black leather. I just love it!!)
I am being told adaptation to US specs and titling is a nightmare and might cost up to $15k-$20K. And the car will never be the same after that... I really love this car.
Help, anybody has experience with this process?
Thanks!

Having been somewhat involved with this back in the late 70's and early 80's -- with M. Benz cars - I will tell you it is complex.
From what I have been told it is next to impossible to do with a modern car - I think the cut off is 25years.
I should say, what I am talking about by "impossible" is the cost to make the changes.
It is my understanding that SOME cars that are sold in europe and also the the us -- are in many ways the same when they are fitted with the same motor. The problem is you still need to get government OK in the US for both saftey (bumpers/doors/glass/lights) but the big problem is the EPA - and the emission system.

Contact one of the dealers listed, they'll be able to indicate rather better the expense. ~$10k and more than a few months of aggravation is a decent starting bet.
