Default Build Date?

Hi All, can't seem to find something specific so hope you don't mind this thread. Looking at a 2000 996 with a build date of Sept 1999. What are the chances this car has the double row IMS bearing? Does anyone know when specifically they switched over to the single row for the 2000 model year?

Very likely dual but there is no fast rule unless you look at the IMS flange. You might just need to contact the seller.

Check this post were Jake Raby stated:

"No, we have torn down 64 engines this year so far. Of those were 8 00 engines and of those 3 were single row equipped."

Thanks this is helpful, seems the earlier builds did have double row but you cannot confirm anything with out a visual inspection.

Correct, earlier builds typically have dual, later could be either, no way of knowing without physically checking. For reference, mine is an 11/99 build date with dual row. Didn't know until had it changed with LN retro.

I have a 2000 and I am missing the plate with the build date. I ordered the Vin decoder from Suncoast and it gives me the Invoice Date (01/00) but not the build date. Wondering if they are one and the same.
