That’s the way to go with this repair.

A PPI would have found this rust, I think. The seat rocked back and forth because the frame wasn't solid to the floor - that would be investigated.
Broken rails, frame, bolts? SURPRISE!

I'm with Yogi - electrical, mechanical, I'll track it down and fix it (or decide it's too much for me, like my rebuilt engine) - but rust? Not for me. Time to farm it out for sure.

No doubt a PPI would have found it. The rocking chair option was definitely a surprise. I think I have a plan of action. I just need to put a chair back in the cabin and might as well re-install the steering wheel too so I can drive it to a body shop.

Given the time it's spent "seasoning" in water, perhaps you should change the name from Pepper to Sea Salt, and install a Captain's chair and a helm...?

To fix this car, you will need the courage of The Skipper, the good humor of Gilligan, the money of Thurston Howell III, the charm of Marianne, the confidence of Ginger, and the ingenuity of The Professor!

Thanks to @TexSquirrel I've already placed an order for the floorboard and seat support. Waiting for them to let me know how much shipping is going to be on that HUGE floorboard.

It’s mainly because of the amount of support I’ve gotten from this forum. Mostly.

I restored a '68 Plymouth many years ago that had serious rust trouble all over, including the floor boards. It was all fixed by a competent body guy.
The pix in the OP don't look serious at all, comparatively.

If rust was under the carpet, it was elsewhere on this car. A simple car on lift inspection would have detected rust. OP said he could see through the floor. So, under the car you could presumably see carpet.

But, back on point. If rusted out in one spot there are others...

When I was doing the mopar thing, I'd marvel at some of the cars they'd send off to the dip tanks and the before and after photos. Swiss cheese. Then the in progress photos of people grafting in segments of new and used sheet metal. Amazing what they could resurrect.

I'd have to farm this seat track thing out too. Hoping for some repair photos here when its done.

What was the line from Risky Business, "who's the U boat captain?"

squirrel is wonderful and helps everyone. Yogi you should let us know cost of all these things. I personally think by the time you get this cab sorted out with I believed you said had 110,000 miles this car including taxes, transport and everything else will be over $22,000, maybe more???
