I figured it out. After John Voight sold his LeBaron convertible, he bought this 996.

Heck, if these prices keep drifting up I might have to sell my C4S and get a 991.1GT3! The price gap is closing fast 😁

I'm really happy about this result, as I have a 99 Aerokit, but this car was for sale directly for 27k before the auction on cargurus, cars.com, etc. I don't understand the person that didn't look around before suddenly dropping 40k on a 20-year-old car.

That seems to be what happens on BaT.

1999 C2 cab with 51k, LSD, option 408 hollow spoke wheels and original IMSB just sold on BAT for $25,000 plus commission.

IMO the car went for only 5k above market plus auction fees.

37K on bat with 75k miles is overpaying.. BUT, it was a special color combo, and previous owner paid many thousands in recent maintenance. Base market price for the car might be 27K and adding for color and perfect working condition I would say low 30's is on the high-end of acceptable. The additional 5K plus auction fees are a BAT fact of life sometimes.

Wouldn't qualify as group think here, only two bidders above 30K, and there's no group think when you have to put up hard $. Above 30k there were only two bidders.

These sales keep making me want to put mine up. I have a similar spec and mileage, no hollow spoke, I have the IMSB, RMS, Clutch, and AOS done within the last 2 years and 3k miles. Also just had the top replaced. Seems like this car had the clutch replaced twice but didn't opt to replace the IMSB either time.

@Putt-Putt you are right... but in reference as to why people flock to BAT... I think and this purely subjective, that the peanut gallery does a lot of the tyre kicking for you. In agreement to your comment, yes once the peanut gallery has assessed the car for you...the money you spend is your own. Also consider the comment in response to @Tom Loder comments... why spend the money here instead of looking around,,, and im thinking that people prefer to spend with a group think safety handle.

Great point, I'm beginning to see it more your way. These cars are an emotional purchase. Buyers seek safety, the 'peanut gallery' can provide it. Although you can never know auction by auction what a person's motivations are those last few moments are more emotional than logical.

It's funny because the peanut gallery tends to overlook questionable things all the time and people buy into it. For example, the 996 Targa that looked well sorted just by the cosmetic work that was done, but nobody ever mentioned the sketchy engine rebuild paperwork posted in the photo gallery. What happened? It broke on the drive home and ended up at FSI for a new engine. AFTER it pulled a premium, even for BAT standards.

I bought mine sight unseen from a dealer, but documentation from prior maintenance was one of the things that were necessary to feel content with the purchase. Had it not had clean maintenance history, would have walked away. Sometimes you don't get all this information on BAT.

Hahahaha- if you google BAT and 996 you are guaranteed to see that Targa and its drive home failure! I think the seller has been banned from Rennlist too! I think i saw some videos or posts from FSI that stated that one of the tires was even bold from use... I did all my research and followed FirstFlatsix.com and then bought a car that had been maintained by a local independent to me and bought the car on their recommendation.
