Starter cable replaced
As titled, I did AOS and charging/starter cable about 6 months ago. Car had starting issue after heating up with more than 1 start post warm up. i.e., drive to grocery, shop, leave, no start if car was hot. Installed new battery with proper CCA, all seemed good after all of this. Now, car has similar issue but with far less hot start issues numerically. Sounds like charging issue in the way the starter cranks/turns over. But, no problem with charging.
Do I need new starter? I unfortunately did not heat shield the new 997 cable installed, dumb, but do not feel like tearing top end apart again just to do that. Starter did have an overrun previously every 10 or so starts. Have not heard that since update. 105,xxx on the clock, driven hard, well maintained.
Thanks in advance.

I'm going for the starter. Mostly starter drag or no spin after the car is warm and the starter is heat soaked. Get a new Bosch starter off Amazon. Do not get a re-man or have yours rebuilt. They are a throw away item.

I would disagree with the re-build part of this ^^^ unless you have an off brand/re-man or Chinese starter in it now (most re-builders won't even touch the Chinese ones)... If you've got a Bosch branded (with correct part #'s) starter, there's no reason that a good re-builder can't make it good as new for substantially less than a new one will cost. Obviously, if you don't know of a good local re-builder, it's probably easier to just get a new one - In which case Joe's recommendation is a good one!

If you are going the starter route I would suggest checking out FCPEuro parts. You could get a new Bosch starter with a lifetime warranty. If it ever happens again it could be replaced for the cost of shipping.
Best,
Best,
If you do decide to rebuild, it's entirely DIYable. I did mine for the cost of a new brush plate. The motors become less powerful as the old carbon brushes wear, and the worn off carbon dust coats the innards of the starter motor. Taking the motor apart, cleaning it and fitting a new brush plate and brushes took a few hours and cost $25, and it still cranks good five years on. I got my brush plate from Ebay by searching on the Bosch part number for spares. However, if money isn't tight, then I recommend just buying a new starter as it wasn't a very satisfying task.
Thanks to all you guys. Considered rebuilding mine, OE Porsche part. Also considering just going the $300 Bosch route, car has 105k on it now. So, who cares about the $1400 Porsche ones. I will check for the brush kits, if you have a link @Martin996rsr , that would be appreciated. I do like to work on my car myself, so the rebuild doesn't seem bad at all.
