Default Fitting double din head unit

I am going to fit a double din sat nav system in my 996, and I was wondering if anyone knew if it would just fit straight in to the opening when I move the air con controls, or whether this gap is slightly bigger than double din.

Any help much appreciated.

You should look at the Pioneer AVIC-N1, its a single din DVD nav unit, with pop out screen and bunch of other goodies. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question

I don't think I was very clear, the center consol part with the vest for the oem nav is double din and would suit your purpose, or you can hack out the center divider if you really don't care the size is the same I believe but just the separator with receptacles for the blue stubbies

Eclipse AVN2454 fits great.

Any Double din unit fit in the center or in the lower console.

Be sure not to leak hot tea over the LCD Nav screen

I installed my GPS screen into the lower console. Took out the useless CD holder and unfortunately the useful cubbie hole as well. Then got a piece of sheet aluminum and cut it so it would cover the edges . Had to take out the entire batwing lower console, take it apart and have a go with a hacksaw to make it all fit. Cut the plastic console in a way that would enable me to replace the whole thing back the way it was if need be. The aluminum matches the door handles and the gear shift, although I did consider painting it black. Took the +12V power from the radio, and ground from the batwing screws that go into the metal frame. The GPS antenna was installed where it was supposed to go underneath the LED alarm flasher. System works just fine.

Of course, the single-DIN system would be great, but in the setup above I would have the GPS on the very bottom so the screen would block the cubbie and not the aircon. I don't mind having it so low as that does not bother me too much when I'm driving.
