Question How to lock dash trim sensor cover

How can I lock the dash trim sensor (part: 996552181), so that it stays closed?
The base (picture #1), is attached to the dashboard with a couple of screws, but I am not able to get the cover to lock to the base (or dashboard?)

Maybe I'm missing something here, but it looks like the clips are broken off on the cover in the picture? Mine popped off when I was cleaning the dash. It just snapped back into place. Maybe you need a new cover.

That was my assumption too, so the above picture is from a new (used) cover that I just bought.
Both the original- and the new cover look identical, so they if they are broken, it must have been at the exact same spot.
I can't see an obvious breakage, so it must have been a clean cut.
Where are the clips supposed to be?

Is it here?
It doesn't look broken on either of the covers, but it is hard to tell.

Here?

I would have to go and pull mine apart, but I thought the two arms around the sensor snap into place with the cover. You'll notice the two winged areas on the cover. When mine popped off, it just snapped into place. Maybe the problem is with the sensor not seating correctly in the slot?

Does it come off going down the road?

That would be annoying. Hope you find a fix!

The winged part doesn't touch the base.
It is hinged in the front, so it is the back part that doesn't close. It seems to be correctly seated though.

I managed to replaced the dashboard without any problems, except for this part, which I thought was going to be trivial.
The part is currently held together with a black plastic strip right now. It does not look good, but holds it together

I just have to have a new part available that I haven't got around to installing yet. Seems these are very susceptible to damage during removal with their delicate clip feature.

That is it!
I have searched everywhere for an image of the locking mechanism.
Thank you all for your assistance. It seems that I have to order yet an other cover.

You can just use a couple dabs of hot glue.

What/where is that thing? I've never noticed it in my car.

It's on the top of the dash near the base of the windshield, at least on 996.2 911s. Some aftermarket stereo installers like to access it to put the GPS antennae and due to the delicate retaining tabs it gets damaged pretty easily. However it just liked to sit there anyways so it's not too annoying if the retaining tabs are broken but you just have to fix things as they break on these cars or soon the list list is pretty long.
