Help - Engine Collant Low
Hi All,
I recently picked up a beautiful 996 4S. It drives like a charm.
On Friday, when I cold started the car, the Check Coolant Level light turned on. After a few seconds, it went off, so I did not think much about it. Then, last night I went to take the car out again, and the light appeared. I decided to go to the engine, where I noticed the coolant level was well below the minimum level. I have videos attached.
I did not see any liquid on the floor of the garage.
Can someone help me understand what the fix is, and if this is a big problem?

Check the oil to see if there is any coolant in it. If there isn't, top up the reservoir and keep an eye on it. When the engine is hot, does it smell like coolant? You need to pinpoint the leak as there are too many ways that the reservoir can be low to just guess.

Have you ever checked it before? Recommend you open the engine lid monthly and perform some visual inspections. As said, top off your coolant (50/50 mix of Porsche coolant and distilled water only) and monitor it.
You should have a blue coolant cap with a part number ending in 04. That's the latest upgraded version. Only buy a Porsche coolant cap.

Top off, run and get hot. You can possibly smell the coolant under the front wheel wells or engine bay. Also, try looking up at the coolant tank from under the car. Any white residue would indicate a leak. Lastly, as mentioned; check the oil cap. Worst case scenario. Likely the a radiator or coolant reservoir leaking. Coolant tank about 160 and a radiator 800 before installment. Both doable. I have a 02 4S and did tank myself and radiator at the shop.
Maybe some just blew out under pressure. Best of luck.
