Default First 996. Pics included. Any thoughts?

So, my fourth Porsche. Always wanted a 911. Found this low mileage example(25k) online in Vegas. Flying out next Thursday to take delivery and drive back to OKC. Not a lot of service records unless I find them in the glove box. Whatever it needs it’ll get. I just hope it’s not something that will require too much time or money. I can do some basic stuff with the help of this forum and YouTube. Any mods that you guys consider a must? It’s a 2003 C4S. Assuming it’s what I think it is I’ll have it for several years. No track days or hard charging (I’m too old), just the occasional spirited jaunt around town and the occasional weekend away. I found the forum through my brother. He was in sales at Porsche North Houston for a few months in 2019. Said there was a salesman there who contributed to the board regularly. I’ve read quite a bit and am trying to soak it up. I’ll admit a lot of it’s out of my skill range, but I still love to read. Kind of reminds me of the DML (Ducati Monster List) I used to frequent. We were passionate, just like you guys. But it sold to a Canadian developer and lots its soul. I hope that doesn’t happen here. Glad to be here.

Thanks! Can’t wait to take delivery. I would put a signature line with previous and current cars but can’t figure out how to do it. Just happy you can see my post!

Love your silver 996. All my trucks as well as my Cayenne and Panamera are/were silver. I stayed away from black for a while because it’s so hard to keep clean.

Super fun! It looks great. Low mileage = higher risk of engine troubles. Please get it checked out thoroughly for peace of mind if nothing else. For me, the minimum is boroscope cylinders from the inside, fuel injector test or replacement, IMSB replacement, crankcase vacuum level check. Lot's of vids for learning on the boards. Don't let them scare you. But be informed.

You will be addicted to this car shortly. Welcome to the madness!

I HIGHLY suggest you get the engine checked out. Checked for bore scoring and if there's any metal flakes in the oil. If you don't, this purchase has a higher probability of becoming a bad financial decision for you. It's happened many times on this forum already. You can find many of the threads posted in this sub forum. There's at least one member who was driving home after purchasing his car and didn't make it home before the engine blew up and left him stranded.

The lower mileage isn't necessarily a plus in the 996 world when it comes to the engine. Also, be aware that having the IMS bearing changed on an automatic 996 is more expensive than manual transmission cars.

Good luck on the purchase, but make sure you have it checked out!

Thanks for the good advice everyone. Assuming I make it back to OKC she’ll be gone through thoroughly at Porsche OKC. Daniel (former tech now service writer) has always given me solid advice and taken good care of my cars. I’ll keep the board posted with the results 👍🏽

Really beautiful car, with a lot of options!!
I would start doing all the preventing maintenance before any mod (it would take quite amount of money doing it right). After that, a good point to start is the suspension getting ride of the US setup and going for the RoW or any other setup you like.

Beautiful example and welcome to the madness! As other pointed out, check the engine. Lower mileage examples can be the risky ones and cost you. C4S Tip was one of the more common IMS failure models from what I read so worth addressing that if it hasn't been. I seriously hope you drive the car a lot more than 1500 miles / year as they're such a blast!
