Default Slippage

I'm noticing some clutch slippage under power in the higher gears, and this is disconcerting on my 2000 996 Cab. The car only has 58,000 miles and a new clutch and flywheel were done 5000 miles ago. The car is a weekend driver and is not thrashed as I'm not a kid anymore. Any suggestions as to what the matter can be?

Marc

Look for any weeping at the trans/engine mating area. If the RMS or IMS flange are leaking it can contaminate the friction surfaces.

Or that the clutch was never changed.

More likely, what was causing the clutch to slip in the first place wasn’t just wear. This is not as rare as one would think.

I once had a shop put in a new clutch on my BMW 330Ci...it never felt right and began to slip within 2k miles.

The shop had put the clutch disc in backwards.

Check for freeplay! If the clutch pedal is firm with no "Slack" you'll have slippage. Bob

And be sure that the slippage is measured at the right spot. If measured by the person’s foot, it could be tight due to the helper spring on the clutch pedal, so that’s not the contact point to check. Just an FYI.
