I bought a uro brand regulator from pelican parts and followed their how too section on removal and install, overall it went very smoothly and would have been faster except for the fact that I did too thorough of a job of cleaning the window before reinstalling it and cleaned all of the marks off the glass I had made for repositioning the glass in the regulator so that took me a couple extra hours to get the glass readjusted properly.
Overall from start to finish it took me about 5 hours
Repositioning the regulator and window is almost an art. It really helps to mark the position of the window glass in the regulator AND mark the position of the window regulator where it bolts onto the bottom of the door. Saves hours of work.
Yes marking the glass and regulator mounting points before disassembly will make the job much easier on reassembly.
Because the regulator replacement seams to be a somewhat common issue there are many good how to's and videos on the internet that make the job fairly easy for the do it your self er.
I didn't find it that difficult to align the glass properly, although it did take time, I just went slow, took my time and everything came out great.
How long did you deal with the issue ?
I won't be able to tackle it til the end of the week but I don't want to risk damaging the motor or having a total failure of the regulator
Just avoid using the window as much as possible until you can fix it. Once you notice it's on its way the timing is truly random when it will fail and Sir Murphy's Law demands it fails in the open position...
In my case I purchased the car in this condition but was told it had been like that for quite some time, I drove the car for another 4 thousand miles like that before getting tired of the window not automatically coming down far enough to open and close the door , I would have to push the window down by hand each time before closing the door.
If you've already tripped the airbag light, sadly, yes. If you haven't, there's no need to disconnect the airbag to swap the regulator.
I second Vancouver996 on OEM vs not-OEM. PO on mine replaced both with URO. 5k miles later I replaced both, with OEM.
