Default 986 windshield fit a 996?

Does anyone know if the 986 and 996 windshields are interchangeable? I can't find a definitive answer online...

I have a 1999 996 and have found someone selling a new oem 986 windshield.

Part number 986-541-901-03

My car is currently in the shop and I don't have my vin# with me.

But it's an early build from March 1998...

1999 911coupe
3.4L
Early build 03/98

Hope this helps, thank you!

Looks like the site can't confirm if it will fit. Made a call into a local Porsche dealer to see if they can help.

Thank you for the advice

No idea, but considering thr part number and price is different I would lean towards "why risk it?"

Especially when the 996 glass is only $60 more than the Boxster windshield.

I know a guy who's selling an OEM BNIB windshield for $350 CAD .. the 996 is $940CAD

Everything is cheaper in the US. I would drive it down an have the work done, but the borders are still closed.

Ouch. Yeah, now I see why you are asking.

curious to know the answer to this as well, are 986 and 996 the same glass? - ( disregarding tints and antennas of course)

Sekurit lists the part number for the Boxster windscreen as only fitting the Boxster. They have a part for 99-01 996 says compatible with all models coupe and cabriolet, and a 01-04 for all models. So I'm going to go with no.

Options like rain sensor raise the cost too.
Auto-dimming mirrors might be a different windshield too.
It seems like when I ordered mine that was one of the things they asked me about.
3 years ago (in September) the going rate for a non-OEM windshield(with rain sensor & autodimming mirror) + installation was $633.

Call Kevin 647- 382 3982 - I replaced 2 glasses recently , he does a great job and you can save some $$$ by paying cash.

Otherwise I can get you a deal from Downtown Porsche at least some discount (most likely about $150 off)
