Default Bought my first Tiptronic Porsche

I've owned a bunch of Porsches since purchasing my first one in 2003. But, this is the first automatic Porsche I've ever owned. Saw it on BaT and on a whim decided to buy it. The natural leather interior really caught my eye.

Anyway, the car arrived today and I have only driven the car a couple miles. So far my impressions are favorable. The car is quite comfortable and will be used a "daily" (along with the Tundra and other cars). I'm looking forward to seeing how I feel about the tip in a few months.

Wow I don't think I've seen the 2-tone door before. (OR if I have I obviously wasn't paying attention.) That is sharp. The dark/contrasting floor helps this interior color tremendously! Enjoy her in great health, @billh1963 .

I have a similar interior but with Savannah beige carpets too (driver side needs replacement) ! Wheel is not original, the PO changed it as it was originally optioned with the "Dark burr maple 3-spoke steering wheel" but the wood started to crack. I actually like the contrast!
Full leather optioned.

I have a 99 C4 Tip with Savannah Beige and Metropol Blue deviated interior. I am normally not a fan of Savannah Beige but with the two tone interior and Ocean Blue Metallic exterior I feel it is one of the better looking interiors out there.

Default C2 Cab with Tiptronic

Congrats Bill! I have a 2001 C2 Cab with Tiptronic. Sometimes I do wish that it was a manual, but I have been really impressed with the manual shift on the Tip. I would say I drive it about 95% of the time in manual mode and it is sweet when it runs up to the red line. As a daily driver it does have it's advantages in stop and go traffic...

Let us know your impressions after you spend some more time with it.

My 02 996 C2 is a tip. I wasn't looking for an automatic, but since driving it now for about 1000 miles I only miss shifting once in a while. It really gets up and goes when you step on the loud pedal. Unfortunately, my transmission is leaking a bit from the case at the other end of the bell housing. It pools up on the plastic under-carriage cover then drips on my garage floor. So far I haven't found anyone who messes with the automatics (as in Indys). I believe my year has the Mercedes 722 transmission.

Yeah, but does yours leave its mark on your garage floor after driving? That transmission is used in lots of Mercedes and Chrysler 300s. There must be someone in the New England area that works on them. I bet removal will be a bear of a job.

I don't think the transmission can be removed without dropping the engine. I thought IMS changes in the Tiptronic was an engine out operation because of this.

Yes, you have to drop the engine and trans as a unit, no way around it.

The engine in my car must have been removed at least twice. It has the IMS Solution. Sometime after the Solution was installed a valve seat cracked and the engine was completely rebuilt. This was all done by the PO. The Indy who rebuilt the engine said he never touched the transmission. So, one has to ask, can the engine be removed without taking the transmission with it? If yes it seems there has to be a way to get the transmission out. If not, perhaps the Indy just unbolted the tranny from the engine after removal, but never did anything to it.

In any event it sounds like a winter project as long as I can find someone who can fix it. Allegedly, the leak is coming from a paper gasket that is not listed by Porsche.
