Default convert 997 short shift back to 996 standard

I bought a 996 that had been converted to a 997 short shift, and I want to take it back to original. Does anyone know what's involved with this procedure, part numbers, etc?

Thanks

A standard 996 or 997 shifter console is all you need. FWIW, I had a B&M short shift installed by the PO in my car. I bought a regular 997 shifter to replace it, because it is slightly notchy for the first minute of driving. I thought my 997.2 shifted pretty well when I had it, so I thought I'd be happy with it. I installed the 997 shifter and drove it around the block. Went right back home and put in the 996 console with short shifter. The 997 shifter felt like a bowl of soup with very long throws in comparison.

I'll sell you my console for $100 + shipping if you want it, but I don't think you'll like going back to stock as much as you think you will. I'll even trade you for your SSK straight up. You can have mine, get it installed and send me yours when you're done. No worries.

The PPO of this car made the move to the 997, and I just can't get the timing and feel down. I had a 2001, and then a 2003 996, both with the OEM shifter, and I liked them. This thing is notchy and too short. I am not racing the thing...

So is the shifter you have a OEM 996 shifter? Or a 996 short shifter? My car is a 1999 if that matters

I have a stock 996 shifter unit out of my 2003 C2 if interested. I replaced ours with a Numerik shifter unit and cables and don’t see ever needing it. The original unit’s throws are too long and not very firm for my liking.

I have an OEM 997 shifter, which is essentially the same as an OEM 996 shifter. There may be some very small differences that are not visible to the naked eye, but they are basically the same shifter.

When I first bought my '99 I replaced the stock shifter (996.424.010.04) with a 997 shifter (997.424.010.00). My unscientific assessment was about a 15% shorter throw. I don't know how much of that feel was because I was going from a shifter with 38k miles to a brand new one though.

I have no dog in this fight, but if the 997 shifter is 15% less throw than the 996 shifter, you really don't want the 996 shifter. The 997 shifter is very smooth and buttery, but not a short throw by any means. I can't imagine what a stock 996 feels like if it's even longer.

I went from a 996 shifter to a 997 shifter and could barely tell the difference. Tonight I installed a Numeric shifter... wow!
