PSA - ReTrofit HID and 996.2 halogen - battery oil spoiler
So, last year, I retrofitted HID's to my 2003 996. When I pulled the car out in spring, I had the classic ignition switch failure No HVAC until I jiggled the key, headlights were hit or miss. So, I buy a URO ignition switch (amazon, had it next day), have weird things happen like the battery and oil light come one, spoiler sounds like it wants to eat itself etc. Run over to the Audi dealer, get a new switch, same as 16 year old one. Same problem. Shut car off, restart, problem goes away. Happens sometimes (40% of the time). Figure it is the ignition switch. Reseated it, made sure it was tight, swapped out with URO etc. Problem persisted. Used my Foxwell n530 to scan for errors. Had some alarm error I cleared. Problem was gone for 2 starts, came back again. So, not related to alarm error.
I googled spoiler fault, no relevant content came up.
So I concluded that I have some weird gremlin. I never googled battery and oil light coming on at start. Well I did that last week. The following came up (main reason for this PSA):

So, I am in Canada, with a Canadian car with DRL (Daytime Running Lights). If I wait to start the car with the ballasts fully ignited, there are no errors! The battery oil light and spoiler noises are related to the HID's.
Needless to say, HID's are coming off once the new H7's arrive. (I am disappointed. The HID's looked really good and not blinding.).
Moral to the story: Leave well enough alone. Don't add non-factory stuff to your car. Mind you, I've said that countless times. I could look for another HID kit and it may be ok. I won't bother.
Hope this helps someone.

It looks like a relay or a resitor inline with one of the lights will cure the problem (per the Renntech thread -
https://www.renntech.org/topic/17691...version-issue/)... Have you tried that? Or, just don't want to bother? It seems like automotive electrical systems are something that very few people REALLY understand! I have or have had similar issues with my headlights, and they're factory stock Litronics - the passenger side light would only fire up intermittently, I get static through the stereo when I turn them on, the high beam on the drivers side doesn't work and if the high beams are on, the drivers side directional doesn't work, and lastly, the light leveling motors don't work in the passenger side headlight... I'd love to get this figured out, but I'm not holding my breath. The main problem is that when you take a car with a problem like this to a shop, all they want to do is replace the lights and charge you an arm and a leg (and maybe some other body part/organ)...

I built the harness for led conversion before my brand new Wrangler was even delivered. Did a full led with relays on my sealed beam mustang. Tons of compliments. Looked completely stock until I turned the headlights on. Didn’t blind other drivers either. That was really important to me.
Gonna stick with the H7 philips extreme vision until somebody makes a LED h7 that replicates halogen h7 heat and dimensions.
