Default Does your 911 also ... ?

Hi guys,

I have several small questions about what is normal and what is not. My 996.2 C2 has modified interior (leather and alcantara everywhere, carbon fiber instead of plastic panels), modified exterior (TechArt wide body kit), Bilstein B6's and full powerflex suspension. SO:
1. Does your 911 also give a feeling that brakes are poor (stiff pedal) but actually stops perfect?
2. Do you feel even small bumps on a road?
3. On bumpy road interior is not rock-solid and there are silent ticks/cracks on bumps coming from the panels. Do you experience the same?
4. On high speed (over 110 mph) front axis feels very light and when you brake hard there's lack of front wheel grip. On a bumpy road I often experience ABS being involved into braking because of "flying" front end. Does your 911 do the same?
5. When leaving the parking place in the morning after a cold night car understeer at 3 mph when front wheels have serious turn angle. Is it normal?
6. Does your 911 also attract tons of kids making pictures?

Thanks!

Yes to everything. When i first purchased it the brakes were concerning. After a few track events you realize the actually work amazing. My high speed light front end was improved with aftermarket suspension and an alignment.

Yes to all of those questions, although I don't get many pictures On a serious note, however, it's relieving to know I'm the only one who was a bit concerned with the brakes.

Time to change your shock absorbers.

Alex - Yes to all. My front felt light at higher speeds so I added GT3 lip to my non-aero front and that fixed the balance. With your body kit you may have a bit more downforce on the rear. Try dropping fronts to 248 kpa (36psi) and rears at 276 (40 psi) cold if you run pressures higher than that right now. I think you need just a little more front downforce for the “light” front. You may need a little more rake to get the nose a centimeter or more down. Just some thoughts...

I think his shocks are new B6. But I do not recall if he uses stock springs.

1. Does your 911 also give a feeling that brakes are poor (stiff pedal) but actually stops perfect? Yes. Not overboosted=more feel.
2. Do you feel even small bumps on a road? Again more feel= a good thing.
3. On bumpy road interior is not rock-solid and there are silent ticks/cracks on bumps coming from the panels. Do you experience the same? It’s a 20 yr old car.
4. On high speed (over 110 mph) front axis feels very light and when you brake hard there's lack of front wheel grip. On a bumpy road I often experience ABS being involved into braking because of "flying" front end. Does your 911 do the same? Weight is in the year. Front gets light at speed.
5. When leaving the parking place in the morning after a cold night car understeer at 3 mph when front wheels have serious turn angle. Is it normal? Yes. The front tires can “skip” at full lock.
6. Does your 911 also attract tons of kids making pictures? All the time. 👍

Thanks!
See above.

No disrespect, how long you been driving a 911?
Your car is “trick” no doubt, but there is a learning curve that remedies most of your issues.
Remember, it is suppose to feel like a HP sports car.
Drive everyday and pay attention to what you feel.
You will soon come to appreciate it!

Thanks, I'll try to play with the tyre pressure. Current values are slightly higher. And you're right, the wide body kit includes rear spoiler that seems to be working.

Doesn't matter if they are old or new. They need to be changed...and the springs too.

I think my brakes feel perfect. U may want to do a fluid flush with one if the higher end fluids and see if they feel different.

Also i can brake hard at 120mph into an over the top right hander and the car sticks like glue to the road. I would really go through the front end for worn parts including shocks and springs. Remember the rubber in these cars are around 20yrs old even if it looks good it may not be. In a weird way the motor and trans mounts will also have an effect on the suspension.

Did you use the GT3 lip or the GT3 Cup lip? My car is much better after the coilovers and new tires, but I still feel like there is some room for aero improvement at speed. I’m looking to get a front lip, as well.

Springs are standard, shocks are new. I've also tried new H&Rs (see photos) and experienced the same behavior. Doesn't it seem strange to you that there are several people that completely agree with my points? Or they need full suspension replacement as well?
