A few weeks ago, in order to install the UAOS, I was jacking up my 996 to place the second jackstand when the first one shifted and fell over.
It cracked the driver's side skirt on the bottom.
I don't know how many cars I've put on those jackstands over the last 35+ years, but it probably numbers close to 100.
This was the first time I'd ever had a problem with any jackstands.
I was just texting with a member here asking about his QuickJack.
I've run into problems only having 4 jackstands lately as we've been working on multiple vehicles here recently.(pre-COVID-19)
I was thinking about buying a second set of 4 jackstands, but now might just go with the QuickJack.
Broadcast it widely - every time I've seen some "thinking about a QuickJack" somebody else jumps up with a barely used one for sale. I'm not sure if they end up with hoists instead or go back to using jackstands. I know since I don't have a garage dragging one in an out of storage would be a bit of pain....but I'm still really tempted to have one for the bigger jobs.
Those adapters look pretty good! I wish I had a welding rig and the skills to use it.
I'm considering getting some jack stands so I can tackle some suspension work. I haven't used them since I was a kid helping my dad in the garage. Most of the jack stands I'm looking at online have a "u" shaped cradle that seems like it wouldn't work for any modern unibody car's jacking points. The ESCO stands are pricey, but have flat rubber tops. Is that what most folks here on the forums are using?

I’m confident you won’t regret going with the QuickJacks. I picked up a set over a year ago and they have been brilliant. I have a pair of the Esco stands, and multiple others, but the straight lift (no rocking back and forth on stands lifting one side, then the other) of the Quickjacks is fantastic. Low position perfect for wheels, brakes and wheel well work. High position allows comfortable access on a roller to the whole underside of the car, including floor pans.
I’ve used mine on every vehicle in the yard, and a couple of neighbours, including my Honda Ridgeline (pushing the weight limits I’m afraid).
I have been pondering the Quick Jack for awhile, still using jack stands. Do you have the 3500 lb or 5000 lb capacity QuickJack? If anyone else using the QuickJack for your 996 which capacity is recommended.
I’m a learn-as-I-go “mechanic” and highly recommend the QuickJack. The 5000SLX is what you want for a 996. When not in use, push them together, and line them up in the middle of your garage and park directly over them. You won’t have to worry about storage, and it’s quick and easy to slide back out to lift your Porsche.
It’s very safe, and no rocking of weight when lifting. Mine is not a daily driver, and had it up on the lift for a full 3 weeks while I worked on my covid project of detailing my wheel wells, painting my calipers, changing rotors and brake pads, and trying a new wheel color on my rims.
Highly recommended. I also place my floor jack under one side as an added measure of safety.

I thought about the quick jack, but ended up buying the 6000. lbs. scissor lift from Harbor Freight that works great, even in my normal height garage I can get my car up quite high and work on the wheels, brakes and suspension while standing, cost with coupon 1200.. don't have to move, built the board to park it.
