Spark plug tube shattered

Hello I have been lurking here for a bit and this is my first post. I was changing out spark plugs, tubes and coils on my 2001 c2 today and the tube on the passenger side furthest back towards the exhaust shattered on me. A few pieces are inside the cam cover. I am wondering what my options are at this point ? Is the only option to have the cam covers off and retrieve the plastic pieces? Thanks in advance.

If the shattered pieces inside the cam cover can be fished out, you can avoid removing the cam cover. If the shattered pieces are too small and/or spread out inside the cam cover then removal may be your only option. Also, assuming the spark plug was removed prior to the tube shattering, I'd be concerned if any small pieces made their way into the combustion chamber through the spark plug hole opening. This all seems dependent on your definition of "shattering" as in several large pieces, or a multitude of small pieces. If the latter, then the cam cover most likely needs to come off. Best of luck.

Ooh, this is not good. The cam area is a very busy area. You will need to remove the cam cover and take all the pieces out. Don't leave anything in there. You need some special tools for this job.

Get a shop vac and try to suck out what you can.
If you can... try to attach a small hose to fit on the end of the shop vac hose and try to suck some more out.
Place EVERY piece together on a bench and see if you got it all!

You might want to collect all the parts you can and superglue them back together, that way you'll have a way of knowing if you got it all or if there are more bits left
