In the process of potentially purchasing a 2 owner 4S. It has had the IMS repaired as well as some other extensive engine part replacements do to the owner finding metal shavings about 4 years ago. I’ll try to attach the invoice to what the Porsche dealership did (apologies in advance for the blurry pics...but they are all I have).
Big picture, called the Porsche dealership that did the work...actually got a hold of tech who knew the original owner. Said the owner never skimped on any service and went all in on the engine repair that they did...”usually above and beyond”.
Going forward, I’d definitely have a PPI done. Any advise? If the PPI comes back solid on the Eng/Drivetrain...would the previous engine work be a deal breaker or something to loose sleep over?
Appreciate all the help. FWIW...this repair was done 4 years ago and about 11,000 miles ago.
Personally, if the block hasn't been sleeved by LN Engineering with aftermarket pistons, all of rebuild work wouldn't be worth anything to me if I were the potential buyer. The machine work listed on the receipt might be for LN Engineering service. Try to verify that.
If it's not LNE services, i would consider it to be just like any other 996 that hasn't had a proper rebuild. Unfortunately, a receipt like the one you provided might make it more difficult to negotiate the price.

Thanks for the reply. Reached out to LN Engineering. Looks like they indeed had a part in this process after all. Here’s what LN Engineering sent me of their work. Thanks for the suggestion...would have never even known about LN Engineering as I’m obviously new to this.
Looks like the engine got LN nickies and an IMS upgrade, along with all necessary items for a rebuild. All for a good price @13k ? and most all of that was paid by Autoguard warranty.
I second that idea. Buy the car! The reason I bought my 02 was that the engine was rebuilt with nickies and had roughly a 1000 miles on it since the rebuild. It already had an IMS Solution prior to the rebuild. Of course I still spent the obligatory $2k after purchase (rear brakes, tires, alignment, Tip tranny and transaxle fluid change, oil and filter change, with me doing the oil change and rear brakes). But, I don't have worry about strange ticking noises or whether the IMS is going to implode.
Because it is a 4, the front differential is an expensive piece to repair and just adds to the expense of owning a 911. I would go for a RWD 911 instead and eliminate that potential headache.

You can just remove the front differential and turn this 4S into RWD without any issues. 996 is the last generation you can mechanically convert into RWD without fuss. Plenty of information in 996TT subforums here or 6 speed.
