Default Weird Wobbling

Hey, due to the current situation, I'm back home and get to spend the rest of my school year with my 996, and wanted to take care of a few issues that I've been having. Specifically, I've been having a weird swaying in my car when cornering, usually at higher speeds, jokingly I've referred to this as "death wobbles". I already have coil overs that are around a year old installed in the car. I've had the car aligned a few times, and at some point, my father took the car to a shop, but I removed the hardtop recently and noticed that the death wobbles are back, only now the speed threshold for this to occur is significantly higher. Does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing these issues? I'm planning on taking my car back to the shop once the corona situation improves. But if there is something as simple as swaybar bushings that need replacement, I'd rather do it my self. The car is now at 154K miles and I'm doubtful that any of the PO's bothered to replace any of the bushings.

Any or all the bushings should be suspect. The rubber is old and needs to be replaced. Start somewhere and keep swapping parts till its fixed. None of it will be wasted money as it all should be done.

I had a feeling that it would come to that, a buddy of mine with an 87' Camaro said his bushings were in better shape than mine. On a different note, what tends to be the cost of getting bushings done vs doing them yourself? It seems that some such as the sway bars seem to be pretty easy jobs.

Upper and lower ball joints or worn bushings along with unbalanced tires.

First thing I would change is the engine mountings, if it's under heavy corner loads then you just feel it go whooooa, I had that on mine, engine mounts were completely gone, easy job too pretty much, just support the engine then undo the one bolt for each side underneath each mounting, then three bolts each side in the engine bay and pull out replace and bolt up, couple of hours I'd say , look for your exhaust hanging low from the bumper , they should be pretty flush , if they look low and sagging , engine mounts are gone as they extend when they get old and the whole engine drops down and wallows around when your cornering ok ?

Engine mounts can make a big difference in handling. I just replaced them on my 996TT a couple of days ago. The rear end would buck a little bit and kick out if that makes any sense. That is gone now. Much improved handling under load.

Gotcha, would it be safe to assume that these are bad engine mounts?

Sorry for the hijack, but what are the "go to" mounts, meaning, what are the best ones out there, and what to avoid.
I want to replace my motor mounts (just because they are 20 yrs old) and want the best I can get,
Same goes for sway bar bushings, what's best?

That is a good indication of worn mounts. How does the other side compare?

It's about the same it might be a tad bit lower.

I think the options that have been suggested are getting factory replacements, OEM suppliers , the function first mounts, GT3 mounts, RSS mounts, and the Wevo mounts. I've heard in terms of NVH, the harshest are the solid mounts, followed by the semi-solids, then the least are the factory ones. I'd look around the forum for what mounts to get. I'm debating between the function first mounts and the Wevo, since I dont know how harsh the NVH is actually going to be. same for the swaybar bushings, I was planning on going with the powerflex bushings but that project will need more research.

Rein. Same as stock. Sorry to be another parrot, but Jake Raby will only use stock mounts as the solid and semi-solid can apparently mess with knock sensors and throw off tuning.

I went with OE Porsche. I know I know...paid the Porsche tax. But, the first set lasted 20 years and I'll be dead (or close to it) before having to do it again. Back to original issue, why not replace your sway bar bushings first and work your way from there. @154K miles they are probably shot or loose. While under there, check everything else and make a plan.
