Default What part do I need for self dimming rearview mirror

Hi everyone,

Need some help. Over the past 2 days, I noticed my rearview mirror was getting looser. It kept falling while I hit bumps in the road and I had to keep adjusting. 2003 Turbo.

Today, I turned the mirror up to see how I would take it apart and a few pieces fell out. Looks like some plastic ring broke around that little ball joint in the actual mirror. Does anyone here know what parts I would need to fix the mirror? Or if I can even fix the mirror or need a new one?

If I need a new one, or if it's an expensive fix; I think I'm just going to get one of those $20 ones. I don't care about the self dimming feature.

Thank you all in advance.

I would have to look it up, but you can find an older VW/Audi self dimming mirror, it works without modification. I bought one and bought the factory wiring harness from Porsche and wired it up and installed it after removing my non-dimming mirror.

Just search ebay for a bit and you'll be able to figure it out.

Thanks!

So I'll just look for a mirror for any VW/Audi around the same year as mine? I see some under $20 on e-bay

I'll chime because I did the same thing but haven't gotten around to installing it yet.

My car doesn't get driven at night much so I was really only buying it for the compass feature.
I bought an audi version from ebay for ~$50.00. It has the Audi logo but is made by Gentex. These are the only markings on the mirror.

I also used a new harness from the dealer which is part # 996.612.964.00. In may of 2018 it was $33.73 from Sonnen. I just checked and it's now over $80.00 .
The little window on the upper right is the compass.
