Default Durametric

Acquired a Durametric Pro along with recent 997.2 but haven’t used it yet as i don’t have a windows laptop (tomorrow). Read the users guide, seems straightforward, not a mechanic, so basic questions:

On my 996.2, which isn’t experiencing any issues nor has CEL ever come on, should i just run a Short Test and see what develops? On an ongoing basis do i perform Short Tests periodically or only when experiencing issues/CEL?

Thanks

I don't know how it is with Porsches but with my Audi's I can scan my car with OBD 11 and VAGCOM will show any faults even if it doesn't throw a code. Like my center air vent motor locked, doesn't throw a light but will show up in the faults under the HVAC system. So if Porsche is the same way it might be worth a look to see if anything is going on.

motoo, when i get it working maybe we can work out a swap. Pro version gives me unlimited Porsche connections vs 3 with enthusiast version.

Owner’s manual did mention test reporting items that won’t throw CEL but otherwise are “informational”.

I have a Durametric pro and like to hook it up occasionally to see how how camshaft deviations are doing and such. Doesn't hurt to establish a baseline!

Play with it now and log your results.
Then you’ll know what a good running engine looks like.

Check out one of Flat6 Innovations videos on YouTube. I'm not sure which one it is, but it gives some good things to check with a Durametric.

Edit, found it:

I have the Enthusiast version and not trying to hijack this thread, but mine shows zero cam deviation. Is that even possible? It also shows 642 range 2 over revs, but that was on the original engine. Now have factory replacement.
Might my cable be screwed up?

I just checked over-rev's for my '99 996 with 53k miles. Zero range 2 ignitions. Whoop!
A bit of math based on the Durametric numbers:
Also pleased that Durametric confirmed the cam deviations are within 3 degrees, but I knew that already from my indy...
