Default Transmission noise on gear shifting & at idle

Hearing two symptoms, and wonder if they might be related:

1) Every now and then when I move the shifter to change gears, I hear a clunking / clicking sound towards the back of the car (this is happening while the clutch pedal is fully depressed).
2) While in neutral, if I press the clutch pedal in, then release it quickly all the way out, I'll hear a ticking at idle (towards the rear of the car). If I depress it again, and slowly let it out, the ticking goes away (the ticking also stops any time the clutch pedal is depressed).

I tried capturing a video w/ audio, but it's a bit hard to make out. If it would be helpful, I can try to capture a better one.

Any thoughts what might cause this? Wondering if possibly the shifter cable connectors in the back might have a little play, but just a guess. Any guidance is appreciated -- thanks!

Sounds like a bad clutch release bearing.

Or even the pressure plate. The dual mass plates make noise and vibes when they start to fail. Sounds like its time to drop the trans and get in there.

I think these are the early signs of the dual mass flywheel springs failing.

Like so many, he came here and asked questions without giving background or video/audio , then got some feedback and moved on, forgetting about this thread.......

Was due to failure of clutch friction plate.

Apparently so. When I took it to the indie..he was convinced it was going to be clutch release bearing or flywheel. He was pretty suprised that the springs had completely failed on friction plate. Said he only seen it once on a road car previously.
