you never know it could've come off a totalled car that was bent and couldn't let the headlight out. or it could've been taken from a junkyard where they didn't have the headlight key. I thought this country was based on the premise of innocent until proven guilty. everyone is so eager to point the finger before they know the whole story...
either way, I have nothing to do with the guy selling this thing... but I just don't think it's right to accuse someone about something you have no facts about.
Oh good lord. Innocent until proven guilty applies to our legal system, not our opinions. If this is not stolen, why was it pried out? (Dont give me this bent car/no key crap) and why is it being sold so cheaply? I think it is obviously stolen. There was one a few months ago on eBay that the seller said he bought at a rummage sale. Give me a break!
(Though I'm not sure reporting it stolen if it wasn't yours was called for!)
and from what i have experienced and seen, our justice system is actually based on guilty until proven you have enough money for a good lawyer to keep you out of jail or whatever
You have no idea what your talking about NiveK. Your basing your opinion on Law and Order or or the celebrity cases on tv. Thousands of cases go through the system with rich and poor being found not guilty/liable. Every so often there is a ruling that is ridiculous but don't blame the justice system who enforces the rules. Blame the legislature who makes the rules allowing for injustice.
actually chitownbob you are the one that has no idea, i do, from first hand experience SEVERAL times so don't go preaching about what you don't know about first hand, i know how the system is supposed to work and unfortunatly i know how it actually works
No, NiveK, I don't think there's a VIN on the lights (though maybe Porsche should consider that in the future, given their popularity now amongst thieves).
I just think it might be interested to have the seller produce the VIN from whatever car the lights supposedly came out of. If he can't produce a VIN, I think he's nailed.
By the way, I wonder if the new, "old" round headlights on the 997 will be more or less attractive to thieves?
the headlight is NOT from a totaled car, the seller states it was replaced (i.e. in a perfectly good car) due to those tiny itsy bitsy little marks on the housing surrounding the headlight. also, the guy also isn't a car parts dealer, primarily a buyer. his explanation for the reason for selling the headlight makes no sense. the tiny marks are almost impossible to notice, even in the close-up pictures. i can't imagine somebody would have replaced the headlight for that reason. and anybody **** enough to replace the headlight for that reason would NOT have had them pried out with a screwdriver. anyway, i reported it to ebay as a stolen item. so shoot me. if it's not, the guy will sell it. if it is, hopefully ebay can stop the sale. the way i reported it is that "i SUSPECT it MAY be stolen property." let somebody else decide. IMHO, it was stolen from a car.
i also have personal experience with damaging headlights in an accident (both of mine on my C4) and let me tell you, if the car was in some sort of accident, there would be more damage. those plastic lenses scratch incredibly easily! that damage on the edge looks like that's where the person first inserted the screwdriver to pull the lights out.
