An interesting side note: some cars, like my MB, have a cartridge filter mounted upside down. This makes it impossible to fill it before installation. I’ve always wondered why, maybe this is the reason.
So do Mezger watercooled engines, and the 9A1.. Aircooled cars have the filter mounted sideways, which is also impossible to pre- fill.

Both my Lexus's have a bomb proof horoizontal paper filter housing that must weigh about 2 lb's.
