Default Removed Secondary Black Plastic Screen re: Air Filter

Amigo's Yesterday evening I finally got around to changing my Air Filter (K&N) - During the air box removal, it seemed strange to me that there were two screens on the air box, one metal and one black plastic. I removed the black plastic and proceeded to place in the K&N. Once everything was bolted on again, I turned on the Targa and quickly noticed a better breathing sound. This morning she seemed livelier (maybe I'm Bugging - technical term) but She does sound different. So my long winded question is: By removing the black screen, would this cause a problem ? I think not, but just wanted to check.

Oh yea, I really love this Targa...

Default Good luck with your warranty...

If they find out that you removed the plastic screen. That thin little metal grate and plastic screen are there to keep debris out of your throttle body and engine. Yes, the plastic screen may be restrictive, but it's protective.

You probably already got rid of the most restrictive portion of your intake by changing the filter.

The base of the airbox collects debris over time... like little pebbles. The screen can add a little peace of mind if something makes it past your filter at +100 mph.

Just my $0.02

Cheers!

The black plastic screen is fine to remove. The fabspeed kit ask you to remove the screen and put a little carbon fiber ring to cover the ridge left behind. Dose your engine sound louder? I want to know since I also removed the air box muffler and thought that was the reason why mines was louder.

you guys should do a search on "Little Orange Plug" It's a free plug you can get somewhere (I forget) and it bypasses the muffler airbox and makes your car sound a bit louder. I've removed both screens on my car without and problems.

Itzkirb, you tore out the metal screen? Pretty bold move, my friend! I hope nothing makes it past your filter...

Regarding the Fabspeed intake kit, the little "carbon" ring is really unecessary. Plus, it's ill-fitting due to the little notch in the housing where it's supposed to sit.

Losing the stock airbox silencer plus the BMC filter has really transformed the sound of my ride. Definitely an improvement.

Since I already installed the K&N and I plan on obtaining the Fabspeed Cold Air Kit , is the K&N fine ? At the Fabspeed site, they sell separately the BMC filter, no mention of the K&N, are they truly that different from one another ? Or is it a combo package ?

I'm also guilty of removing the screen recommend by fabspeed. I installed their kit w/ K&N filter. The only thing that didn't fit really tight was the "carbon like" piece in place of the resonator box. I made two wraps around w/electrical tape at its base to seal a very small gap. definitely like the way it grunts while on the gas, especially over 5K.
