Default NEED HELP - 996C4S Front Differential Problem

Hello all,

This is my first post here so please bear with any errors in style fo posting etc.

I took my 996.2 C4S in to a certified Porsche workshop to have a leak on the front differential looked at. When the diff had been opened it looks like I need a new crown wheel and pinion, however, the mechanic cannot source these two parts anywhere and has quoted me to replace the entire diff or send it back to Porsche centre to receive a "like new one" after swaping in the diff with worn crown wheel and pinion... Both options are very expensive.

Would anyone know where I could source these two parts? I can't seem to find them on Pelican Parts or Rennlist (not for a lack of trying)... I would appreciate any help that I could get! Please don't be shy to suggest alternative solutions too!!

All the best,

F

When I go to the PET, page 91, Differential Front Axle final drive, this is what I see. May have to do some more research on the correct part numbers.

Actually, many people do a 2WD conversion. It is, like many people here, cheap and easy.

There was a freshly rebuilt unit in the classified forum here on Rennlist. Seller only wanted $500. Been thinking about picking up “just in case,” but sounds like you really need it so have at it (if it’s still available.

My C4's front diff is currently hanging from a rafter in my garage...if you can't find the parts and don't want to convert your car to RWD, ping me; we can at least check to see if it's the same part number. Mine is from my '99 C4, removed at approx. 50k miles. If necessary, I could gut it and send you the parts you need.

Your location shows as Africa. I think that will be that biggest problem for shipping. The classified section on this forum has a few complete assemblies for sale. But again, I bet shipping would kill it. If you can't find the parts local then a 2wd conversion is stupid simple and in most cases people wouldn't even notice the difference (unless you track the car). Looks like tons on ebay as well.

Thank you all for the help.

2WD isn't an option, I like my cars in perfect condition.

@Mbren1979 Shipping is always a nightmare living in South Africa...

@5CHN3LL I will pm you, thanks

Fernando - thanks for the PM. Let me know if you don't have any other options for the parts you need - I'm willing to gut my old diff for you if you don't find any other/better local options.
