Hi - I've been reading this board everyday for the last couple months or so trying to get educated on 996 Cabs. Coming from an M Roadster, I just love the convertible feel and have always wanted a 911!
There is ad add in the classifieds section (on the board) for a 2001 in California. The gentlemen is a dealer and seems pretty helpful in the emails I've passed back and forth with him. He's willing to take the car for a PPI inspection, and has experience in shipping cars across the US (I live in MA)
He's asking $62K for the car, but having been reading about the glut of 996's in the market, I'm not sure thats what I could consider a 'good' deal - especially since its warrantee will be over in 9/2005. What do you think a good deal on this car would be? or is it a better idea to go thru a dealer and get a Certified Cab?
I've attached the link with the particulars to the car:
I think that it is overpriced. I picked up a certified C4 Cab with 27K miles, original sticker of $103K for $65K two months ago. For that money, you should look for an '02 - major changes/upgrades from the '01.
$52K - $54k private party sale , assuming that the only wear marks are tiny stone pocks and the PPI is clean. A dealer is going to ask for $5K more and base it on moar peoples' emotional perception that the dealer is a less risky outlet (some would agree...some won't).
Going under $50K isn't totally out of the question if the seller is highly motivated (but it's an emotional barrier for a seller of a 2001 cab that won't be crossed easily).
The Porsche Certified program is hard to beat, just keep looking and your car will appear, find one closer to home that you can see, touch and drive.
Cabs are the biggest seller, theres lots out there to choose from.
Be patient
