So when removing the front bumper to clean the radiators I noticed this cable after removing the passenger side headlight. It runs to the frunk release mechanism. The looped end is feed up to a location that I don’t think can be accessed without the headlight removed. Bottom circle shows the cable running aft and the top circle is the location of the loop. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
You have indeed unveiled one of the greatest mysteries of the Porsche 996. Now relocate that release cable down in front and just inside the bumper tow hook plug. With the loop on the end of the cable it just sits right in there and is in a perfect spot for emergency release in case your battery goes dead.
Just so you know, there is also an emergency release cable for the gas cap filler lid located on the passenger side near the top hinge, and also one for the engine lid located behind and underneath the left rear tail lamp assembly.

Thanks for the suggestion. Wouldn’t this reroute cause the cable to bind in the keeper it is routed through (top circle) due to the tow hook location (bottom circle)?
My solution. I removed it from the keeper and placed it in a loom. The end is taped to the passenger side duct. I can reach it from the far right large hole in the bottom of the bumper. It works fine and does not bind on anything.
