Default Is there a setting to make center cluster LEDs dark by default- 996.2

This is on a 996.2 (2002) - I can make the lower part of the center cluster under the tachometer go dark using the stalk, but I'm wondering if there is a setting anywhere to make it default to this setting. I find the information that it displays useless. Any tips?

Funny cds, as I was going to ask the opposite. For some reason, when wearing polarized sunglasses, the digital display beside the centre one is clearly visible, but the centre is faded out. They look identical without glasses. I use the trip and outside temp gauge all the time.

I've noticed that too, and it changes if I angle my head or use different sunglasses. Maybe it'd be worthwhile to try a different pair of glasses?

Yes the light the gauges emit is focused and polarised lenses cut it out in that plane. THAT is also why pilots are not allowed to use polarised lenses! Just turn your head to see the gauge or get non polar lenses!

Thanks, I kind of figured it had to do with the polarized lens.

You can turn off everything under the tachometer and leave it black (and save settings) but you can’t display just the upper 1 of 3 (usually total miles) and not the middle and bottom. My preference is outside temp in middle and with range remaining or average mpg at the bottom.

Optionman1, how do you save the settings?

I stand corrected. On my 03 c4s if you turn off the entire center display, upon restarting the car it displays the last step you were at, namely the SET/OFF on the far left. Just 1 push of the stalk and it’s totally off again. Granted it’s not saved but it’s one push and done.

Yup, that's where I am as well. Only one click of the stalk, but I'd prefer zero.
