It's been 7 years since I was there last, sounds like it has changed a good bit. I'll have to check it out next time I visit my bro.

We've been here 3 1/2 years and it's changed MUCH even in that time.

We really do like it here, but yeah I can see in 5 more years it turning into Westchester.

It's a great town, sounds like it's really taking off now, my brother lived there for about 4 or 5 years, corner of Stage and Maple, old white house he restored, not sure of the address, he moved to Tuxedo Park after he lost the mayoral election...lol..

The Italian Deli on Millpond is excellent, hope it's still there when we visit.

First of all, I'd like to thank Riad for the podium.....

My wife and I had a long discussion this past holiday about the way people started treating us since I bought the Porsche. We live in a small town so it's difficult to be anonymous. I always went out of my way to keep the car out of sight by parking it in my garage and by using my pickup to ferry the kids locally to various sporting events or to school. Once the word got out that I had a Porsche my wife and I definitively felt that some people treated us differently. We talked about it and try to reasoned whether we were being overly paranoid or sensitive. We did both conclude that some people did change their attitude. It even got to the point that some kids were calling my kids spoiled...which they tottaly aren't as I see to that daily. I even considered getting rid of the car now that it was affecting my kids. My wife and I decided that would give the envious people a victory. All of this would be probably different if we lived in a big city...in a small town it's a small world.

The dumbest thing is that my wife drive a special edition Range Rover that cost us exactly $1,000 less than what I paid for my car, yet no-one ever said boo about her truck because they don't really know what it is. Everyone knows what a Porsche is. Of all the toys I have (a guy gotta have some) such as fancy shotguns, Bogan fly fishing reel collection, nice watches... the ONLY thing that people notice is the P-Car....

Now I'm cool with it and I figure if people want to treat me differently scr*w them, who cares.

The only time I'm being cautious is around clients.....I drive my pickup or rent a car when needed.

In concluding dear fellow rennlisters, I'd like to remind you that Canadian are way more conservative that in the US and if you think it's bad in the US, just come to the land of socialist that's also known as Canada.

Cheers and thank you for the opportunity to vent.

I haven't noticed too much difference. Not many people at my office know I have the car, and most of the ones who know also know that I simply love cars. They know I am not any different in anyway so they are not threatened or whatever. Not that many in my family know about the car either. My parents know and are thrilled that I made enough of myself to be able to have such a car. My mother and father in law do not know that I have the car. I think they might not be that thrilled with it. I am sure they will eventually find out. My friends were thrilled too because they know I love cars and have always wanted a 911. I don't think they were jealous at all though I am sure there are some who are envious. I don't see that as a bad thing. In any event I don't personally care what anyone else thinks regardless. I love my car and that is that. Anyone who wants to judge me on the car I drive is probably not someone I need to spend any time worrying about.

I went through this a lot too, with both people in Los Angeles and people in Toronto. Whether they were business associates or long-time friends, some of them were happy for me, but most of them seemed envious and angry. As if it wasn't fair or something. It really pissed me off at the time, but I don't give a f*&@ anymore.

You find out fast who your real friends are.

No joke, many of my friends here (I moved here just over 2 years ago) genuinely thought I was an internet **** lord

I have a number of projects on the go and spend a lot of my time working from home so they naturally thought I was a bit shady

I'm late to this thread, but I too have experienced my share of the anecdotes posted here. Most of my friends are at similar stages in life as me -- a wife and multiple toddlers, with income streams from investments in addition to primary occupation. Approaching 6 years now on my P-car, and I'm still getting the "he's getting his midlife crisis out of the way early" wise-crack from them. What I can't stand the most is their misconception of me as a person. Whenever we're getting together for a meal or an outting, they'd say stuff like "he's too good to want to go eat there now that he drives a Porsche." WTF?! What does a P-car (or any car I drive) have anything to do with my values or morals? I've learned to just laugh things off, but those types of mischaracterizations really do bother me.

Like it or not, Porsche has entrenched itself as a social icon, and those who of us in pursuit of it will largely be judged as being status-seeking, flashy, insecure, and wasteful. Because of this, I'm extremely discreet about my P-car. In fact, I still have some friends who don't even know about it.

The old adage is so true. Success sure does change people. Sadly, however, it changes those around you much more than yourself.

I got a business in 6 countries in Europe. My employees expect me to be loaded, althought I am not particualy rich compared to some of you guys here

Employees expect bosses should drive nice cars right? I am in the inetrnet biz so I never meet my customers face to face. Maybe that is why I do not need to hide anthing like those of you have to deal with customers. My customers come to a pc inbox

Although I am british, I live in Czech Rep. A lot of people are **** poor here and a lot of people in Prague are mega rich. A car like mine is 10 years the average salary, just a theoretical number for most people. People point a lot and get their camera phones out and take pics which is cool. They seem to appreciate a lot more in the UK where a porka has the ****** image.
There is also the perception here that if you drive an expensive car you are a criminal and BTW a lot of crims do but they prefer cayenne's So owning a car like this in central europe is not so bad and far more positive than negative.

Very limited people at work know I have a 996. It's already hard enought as it is for me to get ahead at work I don't need anymore biases.

A couple of my friends had "tight" faces when they first saw me in it but they got over it.

Family members are proudish.

Wow! I just spent half an hour reading all thes posts. I got egged last summer parked in front of a restauant in town. The only car egged, my red porsche.I tok it home and washed it right away. Some brats or punks having fun.It just shows how everyone is jealous and hates to see someone more successful and enjoying the fruits of their hard work. I'm just glad it was eggs and not keyed or really ****ed up by these miscreants

My response to "curious" observers, etc. "FORTY MORE PAYMENTS AND SHE IS ALL MINE!" Everybody seems to understand passion and leverage whether it is planes, helos, snomobiles, guns, pickups, motorcycles, property, wine cellars, whiskey, women, boats, muscle cars, tie tacks, rolexs, diamonds, weber grills, YOU NAME IT!!!!!!!!!!!good night!

I was really worried about this when I bought mine being from a blue collar background made me extra sensitive that my family might think I was getting a little "uppity". Reality was that everyone was really happy for me. I never got any negative vibes at all from friends, family or co-workers.
