It does blow that a lot of stuff doesn't add value when it should. I just got soaked because I made my 00 Boxster S run and act like an almost new car (56k), You start off with a 11k car and before you know it, your in another 5-7k. Now you go to sell but the problem is your now in for 15-17k and on the high end these cars are available for 12-13k cars.
What I did was pull the seats, hardtop, shifter and anything else I could to get it back to stock and sold separately. I got 12.5k for the car. Hopefully the hardtop and seats and get be back to 15k. Still blows but I did drive for 4.5 years.
The cheaper educated shopper will find out the hard way that likely they were better off paying more for the sorted car then buying a lesser conditioned car for less. IMS and clutch can be 3-4k easily.
My gut says the happiest Porsche owners are the people with their heads in the sand that just buy and drive not worrying about IMS or other things. The car breaks down, they then react. I wish I was one of these folks.
