Default Muffler Bracket

Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to get the muffler attachment bracket, #13 shown below ?

When we removed my mufflers, we had some trouble and these got destroyed.

I'm sure there are quite a few second hand?

When I replaced my mufflers I came across the price when looking for the torque specs... Not cheap for a bracket

The factory manual doesn't have a torque spec for the through bolts

Dan has a good idea. Check with the Porsche part out businesses. A lot of the cars are front end damage which should leave these brackets in good shape.

If the used ones on Ebay aren't inexpensive enough, my only suggestion is to try to steal them off of someone else's car.

Wow, I guess I won't be doing any business with Auto Atlanta. They're $279 at Sonnen (which is still crazy expensive).

Found some on EBay, great suggestion. The next question will be if they can be welded back onto the old mufflers or if that's a lost cause.

You are right. Just added them to my bookmarks just in case for the future.

Thanks

Welding?? Che?

I'm confused, the brackets bolt to the mufflers then the bracket bolts to the carrier which is bolted to the engine - nothing should be welded into place...

Well, in the process of removing the mufflers, we ran into some difficulty and ended up cutting thru the brackets(so they are unusable) and would need to be welded back to the mufflers themselves before bolting them back into place.

Ah okay I see - I thought that might be the case. So basically the mufflers and the bracket were damaged in the process... Time for some performance mufflers + new (second hand) brackets!

I have a set of 996.1 and 996.2 in the attic of the garage (yes, they are different). Message me which ones you need and a reasonable offer, and they're yours.

Perfect! Now that's one thing that makes a great forum. Kudos!

There are brackets integral to the muffler, that bolt to the part you show (#13) with two vertical bolts and nuts, which in turn bolts (3 horizontal studs tack welded into #13, fastened with nuts) into a bracket that is bolted to the engine. If you cut the bracket on the muffler, #13 alone won't solve your issues, you need to repair the integral bracket or replace the muffler.

Understood, we did a poor job on this and now are trying to figure out the best and most cost effective solution.

It sounds like this long bolt through part 13 may have been your problem. The long bolt on both mufflers was rusted fast. I hack sawed mine off then got a metal pipe and new bolt that fit snugly through it. I then cut the pipe to size fitting it through the mesh. All turned out ok for me. Only about $5 in parts from the hardware store.
