Default Tequipment short shift kit

Just saw an ad in the latest Christophorus, Porsche is now offering a Tequipment short shift kit for 986/996.

Anyone have any additional information or details?

Yes it is the same design as the B&M SSK but in black instead of Blue. It will also cost you tripple to have it in black!

Does it really make such a difference? If so, why is it not standard? Any downsides?

I believe the downside is an increase in shifting effort.

I have driven stick shifts all my life, and I'm of the opinion that the SSK does nothing for the 996. I'm taking it out of mine and going back to the original. I'm aware that others rave about it.

colm

why don't you like your short shifter?

i've been reluctant to change also because the stock shifter doesn't seem that bad to me. perhaps i'm just used to it.. or cheap

When it is an option Porsche claims 35%. The Porsche installation instructions claim 37%. B&M claims 35%. If you go to the link I measured 36.85% on a C4S.

The 2004 Boxster special edition claims 15% so it will be interesting to see what is in that car when I get my hands on one.

Yes Colm - very interested. I like the feel of the standard unit - but everyone suggests that Shirt Shift is the one mod you should make.

Here is the picture that Tool Pants took of the C4S SSK. You will notice that the First picture is of the stock shifter.
