There are some gearboxes designed to "snick, snick" when you shift. These tend to be very fast. The Porsche box is not one of them and to me it always feels notchy, you still get the best shifts (and fastest), even with the SSK using what I call "heartbeat" hesitation between the gears.
Using the "heartbeat" heistation in my opinion negates the need for a short shifter, because it's not about speed or distance travelled, it's more about smoothness and precision. At the PDE they don't put in the short shifter, but they do put on the sport exhaust. That might be the one mod to have!
