Default Font hood release cable replacement

Does anyone have any tricks for replacing the cable for opening the front hood on a 2000 996? That's this weekends job.

Thanks

It is pretty straight forward. Remove the hood latch and it will be clear how to replace the cable. Just do one thing, route the cable to just inside the tow hook plug so you can easily get to it. Lube the hood latch with white lithium grease.

You might (?) be talking about different cables? The '00 has a cable released hood from the driver door sill, so it may be that one (not super clear from the original post). Someone here replaced the main release cable (sill to hood latch) recently, poke through the last couple of weeks, or try search.

Oh yeah...I see it could be either cable. Pain in the butt if it is the main cable release. Guess we'll have to wait for an update.

Default Front hood cable from the sill

Sorry about the mix up. It is the main cable from the sill to open the front hood.

Don't know...have not needed to do that. I would imagine you need to start by removing the sill plate and trunk lid lever. Also, open frunk and remove the hood latch. Remove drivers side headlight. I think you should be able to trace the cable back through the upper part of the fender, then through the firewall, down under the carpet to the door sill. Good luck! Might also be a good idea to fasten the new cable to the old cable to pull it through. Tape it together with Gorilla tape? Just an idea.

Hey Joe, if the cable is broken and the drunk is closed, how do you open it?
