It sure was an easy process to get at the hydronic fluid reservoir.
My problem occurred when I thought I was done.
I drove around with the top down all day.
Then the **** hit the fan. I put the top up at the end of the day.
Thats when I noticed a problem the material almost too dead center. I hope I could stick my key it along with some smaller ones. M not overly worried about them. I can deal with this using a pool patch from inside the car.
What ah need is the solution. At the back of the car in the center is what looks like a latch of some sort. It has a plastic flap. I much have installed it wrong. Let this be a warning to anyone going in there.
So upon inspection I find the piece laying off to the side.
Might be snapped off I’m sure I can get a used one for cheap.
Question is what did I do wrong?
Has anyone else experienced this?
I just got the dang thing road ready .

Yeah, a couple of pics would help. I've been back in that part of my cab just to look around and recall some latches but pics would help. Must have put mine back together right as that didn't happen to me.

 

I’ll put up some pictures tomorrow. I believe I know what occurred. After I put the tray back on in the very back there is a lock mechanism I think. I believe it’s used to lock in the back section of the cab. There areas a cheap flap that is likely used prevent the fabrics from getting pinched. I may have installed it improperly. When I lowered the top it got the pinch/holes. One is big enough to put the key in the others are smaller. I already looked for patches and there are some good choices. If I can get the patch on inside it will be barely noticeable.
Am I mistaken or are all the 1999 Carrera tops vinyl?

I had the same thing happen about 1 month after having a new top installed. Have 2 small cuts in the fabric now :-( The plastic cover you mentioned has a spring loaded flap that protects the top from snagging on the cowl latch catch. The plastic gets old and brittle and breaks easily. New one was pretty cheap and easy to replace. Think it had a couple of plastic torx head screws. Replacing this will fix the problem. My cab top has two small partial tears in about the same place on each side of the roof that were there when i purchased the car. Are these normal or do i need to fix something? I've thought about touching them up with fabric glue to keep them from getting any larger.

Move to a sunny part of the country and never put the top up. (and have another vehicle if it does rain or get's cold.)

 

Unfortunately, that is not the answer...sometimes it's too hot and sunny to leave the top down....black leather seats get so hot you can't sit on it after a while
also, in S FL we can get a quick rain shower (sun....10 minutes later shower...10 minutes later sun, and not necessarily on both sides of the street !!)

 

That's why you need to be able to put the top up while driving, may be crossing the street into the rain.
