Default Exhaust System

When I bought my 1999 Carerra it came with no mufflers. The catalytic converters were ducted to the rear. Does the lack of mufflers affect the performance? The previous owner did supply the original mufflers, but commented they added about 80 lbs.

I can't comment on performance, but he was right, the stock mufflers weigh a ton.

I kind if like the way they sound though. I have a stock cat/muffler setup on my 2000 and a 200 cell cat, Gemballa muffler setup on my 2002. I think the 2000 sounds better...

You can get aftermarket mufflers that way a LOT less and also sound a LOT better.

Yes and no on performance loss - I haven't done it but have read - performance loss low down - performance gain high up (the RPM band).

There is also the issue of drone...

I had muffler deletes on my car while my mufflers were out for the Fister Mod.

It brought a tear to my eye lifting the heavy oem mufflers back into their homes but the drone from the muffler deletes was not fun... and I barely drove the car while the muffler deletes were on lol less than 500 miles.

I would have liked to get some Fabspeed mufflers to drop some of the weight but the price was considerably more than the Fister mod and the Fisters do sound SWEET!!!

Might drop some weight and do the headers and cats later... we'll see
