996 - Club Racing Update
I had SpeedSport Tuning install an Aasco lightweight flywheel and sport clutch setup in Kermit (3.4L SP 996) a few weeks ago. First event with the new setup was the PCA Club Race at LimeRock last weekend. Lots of rain and cold but we ended up with 3-4 relatively dry/drying track sessions, including (2) sprint races. Missed qualifying for the first race, so I started at the back - what a hoot working my way through the pack! Check out the video linked below - was able to get by 5 cars in 1 lap as a result of some crazy 3-wide action at the entrance to Big Bend and some subsequent traffic. The lightweight flywheel seemed to help acceleration sightly and definitely made the blips for rev-matching downshifts quicker. My best lap for the event was 0:59.55 - personal best and set on a cold track. Steve Schindler (3.6L SP 996) was even quicker. These cars are quick and an absolute hoot to drive on the track - gotta be the best bargain out there for a rear engine Porsche track car!

Awesome driving! Very nice working your way through traffic.
That silver boxster was the meat in a sandwich but kept his foot in it and came out on top.

Nice driving Jeff. I’m the right side bread in that 3 wide sandwich (purple/green Spec Cayman).
I have some video following you after we cleared that traffic. I ran my best laps then! (59.4-59.6)

38D - It was fun dicing with you there! Got a 59.55 after the traffic myself. Not bad given the temperature! Feel free to post or shoot me a link to any video. No WGI this year for me (first grandchild due about that time). May do VIR - (looks like a great track) and Mosport this year if the car doesn't sell.

Jeff your car and posts have me on a perpetual search for an inexpensive 99 to turn into a spec 996 car.....
I also often think about spec 996/986 suspension for my 986 S and go have a blast.
Someday, I hope.

Anthony - The 996 is certainly a (relatively) inexpensive way to get a Porsche together for the track and/or racing. I'm biased but the 996.1 with 3.4 L motor has been good to me. Still, mine's for sale for ~ $36K as I am considering dialing back to a vintage track car.
