Sending unit flakey, have had it, replaced it, U smacking dash was coincidental, with it coming back.
You can clean the Sending unit contacts, but replace it, 60-75.00 depending on outlet.
Look no further.

It would help for OP to re-affirm the causality of his smack and the needle jumping back (was it instant etc), and if it is like he says I'd like to discourage the blatant dismissal of causal symptoms on the basis of 'coincicence'.
Just because many of you had another issue with your oil pressure sender, doesn't mean *all* oil pressure gauge issues are caused by that.

your right, let him figure it out. Please respond back.
I smacked my Dash, nothing, I must have missed where to smack it exactly.
The Oil pressure gauge is part of Instrument bezel that has 3 high concentrated connections that don't tend to work loose, very secure. Do any other gauges or lights flicker?

Huh, Did you notice the red warning screen? If it was O at startup it wouldn't have lasted 7-8 minutes without Oil pressure
Leave it alone and it will continue to happen more often.
Clean contacts, it will reduce events, but they won't go away.

If the sending unit failed, you can hit the dash with a sledge hammer and gauge will not more. I would look for the problem in the connector at the gauge cluster first and go from there.

Your right if the Sending unit fails, No amount of pounding will bring it back,
But flashing between O - 5 Bar , It's intermittent, a sending unit is a analog electro-mechanical pressure device.
Again, OP needs to Troubleshoot it and tell us what he finds. This should prove interesting.
Please let us know how many parts you break taking the Instrument bezel off, a Hazard Switch? , a Microphone bezel, One of the connector bails either White Blue or Green? , Or marks it makes in setting it on top of dash.

Like losing your keys in the dark alley but searching for them on the sidewalk because the light is better there
